Start with record-to-animal identity
Before reviewing vaccines, compare the microchip number and animal description. A perfectly formatted entry for a different animal is not useful. Request a fresh microchip scan if the number is unclear or appears only in a chat message.
Check that the veterinary practice, veterinarian, date, product information and signature or authentication method required locally are present and readable. Requirements vary, so avoid declaring a document invalid based only on unfamiliar formatting.
Check travel claims against official sequence rules
For private non-commercial EU movement, the EU’s official guidance states that rabies vaccination must follow microchipping and that a primary vaccination normally requires at least a 21-day wait before travel. Booster continuity and route-specific conditions can change the result.
Those rules do not automatically govern a sale/change of ownership. A seller saying ‘EU passport means ready for every border’ is oversimplifying. Verify the exact origin, destination, age, movement purpose and responsible person.
Escalate questions to the right source
Ask the issuing veterinarian to confirm or correct the entry through proper channels. Ask the competent authority or a qualified travel-document professional about cross-border requirements. A buyer should not infer medical fitness or immunity from a scan alone.
Keep any corrected document together with the original and written explanation. If the seller resists a reasonable issuer check, delay payment and handover.
